I think the thing I love most is being involved in “big” science. The particle accelerator I work on is big. And that amuses me because it is accelerating protons which are really small. I would say this massive change in scale is the part I love about my job, it makes it really interesting and poses lots of challenges.

I love the fact that i come to work and i solve puzzles all day long, then there are the mysteries of what things do or don’t happen like you think they will. It is so wonderful when you get encouraged to think about things, to understand them and to try things to investigate them. Everyone pulls together and there is a real family feel to the place which is great too 🙂

I love the fact that I can see my ideas come to life. If I want to do something new in my project, it is up to me to look into the idea, make sure it is safe, carry out the experiments and explain what I have found. That is of course assuming that it works, science doesn’t always work the way you want it to but that is also part of the fun!

I really love the fact that other people find what I do interesting. I find particle physics fascinating, so it’s really great when other people share that enthusiasm and want to know more.
