• Question: Out of all three items which is the best invention: the rubik's cube, the nutcracker or a ladder? I want lots of opinions from everyone. I'm asking because I can't figure out which is the best...please help me decide.

I’m pretty sure the only people who can solve Rubik’s cubes read how to do it on the internet (if you say you didn’t I don’t believe you!). I’ve never been able to spend more than 10 minutes on one before loosing interest.

And the nuts I most like are pistachios. You don’t need a nutcracker to open those.

But I needed a ladder the other weekend to get into the loft to wire our bathroom… so the ladder is the best invention.

I think the ladder is the most universally useful item, although I do know fo the world/european blindfolded 3×3 Rubix cube champion, he went to my college!

As with Daniel and Andrew I think I’m going to plump for the ladder.

Ladders can be quite handy, in a practical sense. They’re also useful in more abstract terms for describing progression, like career ladders, or tennis ladders. I play a lot of football too, so ladders are an incredibly useful training tool for quick feet training, in and out of the rungs…

Rubik’s cubes are quite cool (despite the tempation just to move the stickers?!) but I’ve never managed to even get close so I get easily distracted from one.

The nutcracker came a close second for me. I think it’s great that we had to invent something mechanical to allow us to do something so simple as to get a nut out of a shell, something the squirrels do so easily. I often wonder if they laugh at this.
