• Question: Do you believe in the Big Bang theory?

      Yes. All the evidence we have suggests there was a big bang.

      There are some details which need to be worked out – like why the Universe is the same temperature in everywhere – but these are just details.

      There’s no serious evidence that I’m aware of that challenges the idea of a Big Bang.

      I agree with Daniel – the evidence does seem to suggest it! During my time at university we studied this quite a bit and it was really interesting and seems to make sense when you look at the numbers involved.

      I still struggle to get my head around the concepts though… So do I believe? Well, I try to!!

      I agree too – I think it happened and the evidence supports it.

      Where it will go from here i am also very interested in… People originally thought the expansion of the universe would slow down due to gravity and it would end in a ‘big crunch’ but now they have measurements suggesting that not only is it not slowing down but the expansion of the universe is speeding up… Whoever first measured that must have been very surprised indeed.

      Yes, it seems to be the best theory we have at the moment for explaining the birth of the universe. There is however a huge argument possible between the role of belief against scientific enquiry.
