Some basic understanding of how the angles and forces you hit the ball with could improve your technical ability in a sport like table tennis, badminton or tennis. To be honest however, the best way to improve is to practice as the huge number of variables involved in hitting a ball (for example, slight angle variation, wind resistance, surface of table etc) means that a physical understanding is very difficult.

One sport that physics may really help is snooker. Often the angles at which you have to hit the balls, including bouncing off other balls, the sides etc, are very much a physics problem. Give it a go!
