      No. They are there to catch bacteria and dirt before it enters your airways, but if you swallow it then your stomach will kill all the bugs in there anyway.

      No. They come from the sticky mucus your body uses to keep dust and bacteria out of your lungs.

      You’d probably be in trouble if they were poisonous since there’s lots of that mucus in you, particularly when you have a cold!
